Retail sales data for January that was released this morning looked good. It jumped more than expected. This might imply that consumers in the US economy are in a reasonably good shape. On one hand this might mean that "soft landing" looks more real and on the other hand it raises concern that it might get harder for Federal Reserve to bring down inflation to the target level. Perhaps these are the reasons why stocks fluctuated but ultimately all three major US indices finished the day in green,
